Launch of the Belmont Tower Red Heritage Trail Map12 September, European Heritage Open Day (EHOD)10-4pm Elma Newberry, Chief Executive, of the East Belfast Partnership joined the Trustees at Belmont Tower today at 10.30am to launch an exciting new heritage initiative in East Belfast. This is the first in a series of maps being produced by the Trustees who manage Belmont Tower, made possible thanks to the generous funding provided by Esme Mitchell, with the aim of helping you find those beautiful landmark buildings in East Belfast.
Trust Formal 10th Anniversary Dinner
Friday 20th November 7.30pm - 11.30pm
The Old Belmont School Preservation Trust celebrated their tenth anniversary event at the Belfast Harbour Commissioner's Office on the 20th November 2009. The Trustees were delighted their patron Lady Carswell OBE was able to attend the celebrations. Many attending were former past pupils including Noel Thompson and Ivan Lyttle. Noel was MC for the evening while Ivan was the guest speaker.
It was remembered how in 1999 the Trust was formed with the original vision of seeing the building restored to its former glory and brought back into use for the benefit of the local community and future generations. Ten years on the building is restored and is open to community and corporate organisations with a coffee shop on the first floor.The building has become a multi-use facility.
The event was also an important fundraiser. A significant amount of money was raised all of which will be used to keep the building open.The evening was a great success and the Trustees thanked everyone attending and the local community for their support over the years without which the Trust simply could not survive.
